FAB! Films for Kids!

Saturday, September 04, 2010

The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival
and
Funding Arts Broward
presents

In honor of the passing of the great "Star Gazer" Jack Horkheimer, this month we look to the stars and celebrate the US space program with two short films about space travel.

Blast Off!
A time-travelling historian teaches children about the history of America's space program, from Project Mercury and Gemini to the Apollo missions and the Space Shuttle, in this dynamic, live-action program. Children will follow historian Major Impact as he soars with the early pioneers of flight; meets Ham, the first chimpanzee in space; and sets foot on the moon with astronaut Neil Armstrong and the crew of the Apollo 11. Meet the crews of the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle missions, learn fun facts about the rockets and about the important events in the history of the U.S. space program. - 30 min

The Big Space Shuttle
Go behind the scenes of a live-action space shuttle assembly and astronaut training mission, follow a mission through from launch to landing, meet the crew of the space shuttle Columbia and visit a space camp for kids. Learn interesting facts about outer space and astronaut experiments performed in orbit. - 40 min

Following the films, the kids get to make their own Space Shuttle Ice Cream Sundaes

Bananas become rockets! M & M's are asteroids! Chocolate syrup turns into a comet!

Create your own ice cream sundae that is out of this world delicious!!!!

PLUS, one lucky kid (plus friend) will win admission to the Kennedy Space Center and have lunch with an astronaut. You must be present this Saturday to win!
