23rd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival October 12 - November 9, 2008
GO AROUND THE WORLD IN 23 DAYS AND NEVER LEAVE THE TROPICS
THE 23rd FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
A VACATION FROM ORDINARY FILM
Cinema Paradiso - Miniaci Theatre for the Performing Arts - AMC Coral Ridge - Huizenga Plaza - ArtsPark
Recently named one of the top destination film festivals in the United States by Movie Maker Magazine and the highest rated film festival in the State of Florida by the Florida Arts Council, Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) attracts thousands of movie lovers each fall. Now in its 23rd year, the annual fest will reel out over 175 films from around the globe between October 16 and November 1.
There are over 60 feature films. The balance are thought provoking documentaries, clever shorts, filmmaker tribute films and on Saturday morning's...family films. Filmmaker and celebrity sightings create an aura of excitement around the month-long cinematic event. Film Premieres and exclusive screenings, as well as parties and receptions aboard yachts and at some of Fort Lauderdale's trendiest clubs and restaurants, offer opportunities to experience this tropical paradise and to meet both moviemakers and actors alike.
Over the years, FLIFF has consistently programmed some of the finest films, many of which have become major box office hits and some that have been nominated or received an Oscar® including Pedro Almodovar's Volver & Bad Education, Mrs. Henderson Presents, The Matador, Being Julia, Last year's FLIFF award winning film Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and many more.
Some of FLIFF's special guests over the years have included Matt Damon, Kevin Spacey, Sir Ben Kingsley, Ashley Judd, Elisabeth Shue, Michael Caine, Ben Affleck, Tim Roth, Maria Bello, and renowned directors including Martin Scorceses, Robert Wise, and Peter Bogdanovich.
FLIFF offers a variety of Group Travel Packages which include hotel, festival discounts, car rental discounts, and transportation to Fort Lauderdale. FLIFF's host hotel and hub of activity is the Fort Lauderdale Beach Courtyard Mariott, located right on the beach. The hotel offers individual discounted room rates and 2 for 1 ticket vouchers to attend FLIFF. You may even run into a star or two and some of our filmmakers. The hotel is just a few minutes from FLIFF's year-round art house, Cinema Paradiso, one of the festival's three theatre venues, located just around the corner from renowned Las Olas Blvd. Other theatre venues include Nova University's Miniachi Theatre in Davie and Coral Ridge AMC.
Tickets to FLIFF range from $5 to $10 for films. Tickets for major film events, like Opening Night and Closing Night Films & Parties, vary and are reasonably priced. Festival Fast Passes and year-round memberships offer discounted rates and even some free films.
Check back for additional information as we ger closer to the festival!
