Held annually in October and November, the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival showcases the best of American and International cinema over the course of 3 weeks.  We screen approximately 250 features, documentaries, shorts, and music videos. Now going into its 24th year and with the attendance of up to 100,000 filmgoers, the Festival has grown into a world-class event uniting new and established filmmakers with the movie-loving public.

Cinema Paradiso is our year round arthouse theater. Not only do we present the best in film year round, but also house music, live theater, along with a full array of other events, plus private parties, fundraisers, and social events.

But we can’t do it all without your help!

What you can expect as a volunteer:

  • You will have a rewarding experience while being treated with courtesy and respect.
  • Although you will work hard, you can expect to have fun.
  • Volunteer shifts run approximately 4 hours.
  • You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how a festival is run and learn more about the entertainment business.
  • You'll work with a team of professionals that enjoys movies just as much as you do.
  • You'll make new friends and connections.
  • You'll have the opportunity to view films before they are released (as well as some that may never be released).

What we expect from volunteers:

  • We expect you to arrive for your scheduled shift on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to work.
  • We expect you to abide by our rules of conduct both on- and off-duty. Remember, you officially represent the Festival.
  • We expect you to become familiar with the information in the Festival Film Guide.
  • We expect you to treat everyone with respect – friendliness and a smile can often make someone’s day.
  • If you are unable to make a shift or are running late to a shift, we expect you to contact one of the Volunteer Coordinators immediately so we may ensure the Festival runs smoothly.
  • We expect you to work to your fullest capacity, but allow yourself time to enjoy the Festival.

Festival volunteer Benefits

Volunteering for the annual film festival provides access to festival screenings when you are not scheduled to volunteer and when seating is available. Although we are grateful to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, certain restrictions need to be followed regarding benefits given to our volunteers to allow us to maximize ticket sales at the festival and Cinema Paradiso events. Admission is only after all pass-holders, single ticket-holders, filmmakers, media and stand-by ticket holders have been seated and you MUST have your volunteer badge to gain access.

Cinema Paradiso Year-Round Benefits

For every 10 hours of Festival or Cinema Paradiso volunteer service completed, each volunteer earns one (1) Cinema Paradiso voucher good for 1 (one) regularly priced screenings at Cinema Paradiso, subject to the limitations listed on the voucher.

Please remember to sign in and out for your volunteer shifts so we can track your volunteer hours!

The 23rd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (October 16 - November 10, 2008) is the world's longest *Guiness World Recods), the oldest consecutively running Florida fest, Florida's top rated film fest (Florida Arts Council) and one of Broward's five Major Cultural Institutions. With 200 screenings of 150 films in venues stretching from Key West to St Augustine, FLIFF serves the widest constituent base of any festival in the country. In addition to our award winning programs of world and American independent film, FLIFF also provides free film seminars, free films for kids, free outdoor family movies, and a variety of gala events.
The 2008 FLIFF brings back an audience favorite venue The AMC Coral Ridge Theatre (October 24 - 30). The AMC was our first home, years before we created Cinema Paradiso. In addition to two non-stop screens, The AMC will also host our Festival Cafe, open to all filmmakers, press, corporate sponsors and Producer level and above members, The stunning Miniaci Theatre for the Performing Arts on the Nova Southeastern University campus in Davie will host our Gala Opening Night (Oct 17). But beyond a doubt, the Festival feels like home when we are at our year-round digs, Cinema Paradiso, complete with a full bar, The Paradiso Courtyard Patio, free parking, stadium seating in plush blue velvet seats, and the best sound & projection in South Florida.

On October 31st, the 4th Annual BOO-tacular will take place at Cinema Paradiso. From 6 – 8pm, kids can enjoy our Pumpkin Patch, Haunted House, Costume & Scream Contests, Halloween movies (easy on frights for the little ones) and treats. At 9pm things get scary for the older crowd!

There will be several free outdoor movies including Blockbusters at Pompano Fashion Square, Huizenga Plaza, and at Hollywood's ArtsPark.

The Official Entre Nous Opening Night party will take place at Signature Grand, just a five minute drive from The Miniaci. With celebrities in attendance, a live band, a fabulous silent auction and sumptuous buffet, this is one of the best known FLIFF events.

With year-round programming at Cinema Paradiso and throughout South Florida, FLIFF is a vacation from ordinary film.
