AN ORDINARY CASE (Le Fil)

France / 2024 / 115 min / French with English subtitles / Murder Mystery

Jean Monier is a disillusioned lawyer, appointed to defend Nicolas Milik, a man accused of murdering his wife. While everything points to his guilt, Monier takes up the case, convinced of his innocence. As his investigations kept him back to the night of the murder and the family dynamics, he also gets closer to his client, adding to the pressure to defend him.

DIRECTOR: Daniel Auteuil is a French actor and director who has appeared in a wide range of film genres, including period dramas, romantic comedies, and crime thrillers. In 1996 he won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival together with Belgian actor Pascal Duquenne.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT: It’s based on a true story: a blog written by a very young lawyer, who died two years ago. I allowed myself a certain freedom [to make the story more compelling on a cinematic level], but I wanted to remain faithful to the real tale, for the family and children of the people involved, and for the lawyer himself and the passion he had for his job.
