The film traces his origins in Florida, his role in shaping jazz fusion in the 1970s, and his collaborations with luminaries like Weather Report, Pat Metheny and Joni Mitchell. While highlighting his innovations, such as revolutionizing the fretless bass, the film also addresses his struggles with mental health and addiction, offering a compassionate portrait of an artist whose genius was matched by vulnerability. Employing archival footage, rare photos, concert recordings, and interviews, Pastorius paints a vivid portrait of the man behind the music.
