Set in the Venezuelan city of Acarigua, The Shadow of the Sun is the heart-tugging tale of two impoverished brothers who long for a better life. Leo, a factory worker, slaves away day after day for pennies while Alex, his deaf and closeted younger brother, endures malicious taunting from his peers. When they learn of a music contest with a cash prize that could lift them out of poverty, Alex makes a proposal: he’ll write the song if Luis, gifted with a beautiful voice, sings it. Reluctant at first to use his musical abilities, Luis takes a leap of faith and gets a literal band together to attempt to win the contest — and change the brother’s lives forever.
Audience Award at last year’s 2024 Miami Film Festival, and was featured at the Fort Lauderdale Outshine (LGBTQ), Malaga, AFI, and LALIFF film festivals. It was nominated for a record-breaking 16 Venezuelan Academy Awards and received 14 international film festivals awards.
