A passionate pilot is challenged by her grandmother to live her life on her own terms but finds herself at a crossroads when that could mean revealing her grandmother’s long-buried secrets.

 

When Jo, a young pilot, returns to Molokai, Hawaii in 1977 for her grandfather’s funeral, she discovers that her grandmother’s quickly encroaching short-term memory loss reveals some long-hidden secrets. She’s determined to discover if her grandmother is an infamous aviatrix, why she’s hidden on this island for so long, and if the truth will change her career and fortune.

 

Director: Amy Glazer began her career in theater, directing numerous award-winning plays in the San Francisco Bay Area theaters including TheatreWorks, Marin Theatre Company, San José Rep, Eureka Theatre, Traveling Jewish Theatre, the Edinburgh Theater Festivals, and Assembly Theater. Amy served as an Associate Artist at Magic Theatre for eight years and as Associate Artistic Director at The San Francisco Playhouse for six years, where she also directed numerous plays including “world” and “west coast premieres”.



Expanding her portfolio, she began adapting plays into films. THE SURROGATE (formerly titled BEAUTIFUL DREAMER (2022), her fourth such adaptation, is an homage to the Bay Area, her home for the past 30 years and won her Best Director and Supporting Actors for Wendie Malick and Louis Ozawa at the LA MethodFest, A Pick of the Week by the SF Chronicle. Her film KEPLER’S DREAM (2016) starring Holland Taylor and Kelly Lynch received the Silver Award for Family Favorite at the Mill Valley Film Festival. Hollywood Reporter called it a “family film charmer”. In her 2010 film SEDUCING CHARLIE BAKER, Theresa Rebeck went on to win The Grand Prize Award at the Canada International Film Festival, Best American Indie Award at the Fort Lauderdale Int’l Film Festival and Best Filmmaker Award at the Jersey Shore Film Festival. Other films include DRIFTING ELEGANT (Steven Belber, 2006) which premiered at Mill Valley International Film Festival, garnering critical praise in Variety and the SF Chronicle and her short film BALL LIGHTNING, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.
